How publishing with The Good Men Project advances authors:

Publishing helps thought leaders share their message with an audience. The Good Men Project has a large, deeply engaged, passionate, articulate, and vibrant audience that cares deeply about the world we live in.

For eight years, we’ve been building an international community who not only care about the world we live in, but are committed to making it better—not just for themselves, but for others too. The Good Men Project has more than one million — yes, one million, social media fans. Our platform and reach is large—by extension, your reach is expanded when you publish with us. Here’s what one of our long-term columnists has to say about the way The Good Men Project platform helped him reach a world-wide audience.

I’ve been doing men’s work since my son, Jemal, was born in 1969. I wrote an article for GMP when the website was launched eight years ago because I liked the idea of a dialogue about what in means to be a good man in today’s world. I’ve continued to write regular articles and participate in the community because I believe they are doing something revolutionary in talking about the issues that face men and women in this topsy-turvy world we all live in. As a writer they have provided me a platform for reaching a huge audience of engaged, interested readers. A number of my articles have garnered more than 2 million readers and they are affiliated with many other top websites who have also posted my writings. Where else can you meet regularly (every Friday) with the CEO of a media company and hear about the latest trends and discuss what touches people’s hearts and souls? If you’re a writer who wants to reach a world-wide audience or a reader who wants to hear from some of the most cutting-edge voices addressing men’s work in the world today, this is the place to come.— Jed Diamond, Founder/CEO MenAlive

The Good Men Project has 45,000 email subscribers and more than a thousand premium members who engage with content and participate in Social Interest Groups that literally change the world in big and small ways.

You own the rights to works published on The Good Men Project, so if you want to share the article on your website or compile the posts you publish with The Good Men Project in a book, you’re free to do that. Note when publishing elsewhere, you must link to the original work on The Good Men Project.

When your article is published:

You’ll receive an email from The Good Men Project with a link to your published work.

First things first:

Follow the link and review your work.

Ensure that the links in your bio are linking properly to your website and social media site(s)–if not, contact your editor for corrections.

How to immediately get the word out:

Share your work using the share buttons on your article page on The Good Men Project (see below).

The first 24-48 hours after publishing are the most critical in promoting your work–it’s important to get the word out quickly after you receive the email confirming your article is published.

Share your work on all social networks including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Alignable, Pinterest, Google+, Email.

When sharing on Facebook, don’t forget to share in the groups where you are a member.

You may also want to text or email a link to other contacts you cannot reach through social media or those who don’t use social media often.

Since video is the number one medium on social media, consider doing a Facebook video reading your post to encourage engagement.

By sharing with your networks through all your social media platforms, you’re trying to to get the maximum number of pageviews. The sharing will help not just immediately, but over time, and both Google and Facebook will see your network as valuable as people interact with your content.

The social media links will remain out there in perpetuity, which means you will benefit from “the long tail of the internet.” If a post has enough shares (usually 1,000 or more) it will continue getting pageviews long after it was first published.

What to do for your business needs:

Add the article link, title and photo to a log of your work so you always have an up-to-date list of all your published work.

Add links to your new article(s) to your website.

After 48 hours, you can republish your post to Medium, your own blog, or any other media site with a link to the original post on The Good Men Project.

You may include The Good Men Project badge on your website and indicate your work is “Featured in The Good Men Project” or you are a “Contributor for The Good Men Project”.

What to do on an ongoing basis:

Respond thoughtfully to comments to keep readers engaged with the post. If you add a comment, you will see the option to “Subscribe to Comments”— and then you will be notified by email every time someone comments.

Re-share your article on your social networks and invite your friends and fans to like The Good Men Project on social media.

Consider a Premium Membership so you can get deeper into the community.

Keep contributing to The Good Men Project, repeat.

Bonus Tip on Sharing Blog Posts:

One of the best ways to share a blog post is to shorten the link by using a link shortener tool like bit.ly.

On the bit.ly website, you paste the long URL from the original blog post and a shorter URL is assigned. While you can use the short URL that is assigned, it’s not “pretty.” The beauty of a bit.ly link is the ability to assign a memorable name to the link so someone can remember the link name and type if from memory. You get to choose the link name rather than using a pre-assigned alpha-numeric link.

As an example, when using a bit.ly link to a song, the assigned link was bit.ly/2iluwhO. However, the better choice was bit.ly/BeckWOW.

The same number of characters were used, yet the impact is much different. It’s unlikely the link bit.ly/2iluwhO will be remembered, but much more likely bit.ly/BeckWOW will be.

My business name is Brilliant Transformations, so all of my articles are named bit.ly/Brilliant____. This is helpful for two reasons:

1. I nearly always have the link to my articles handy because I can remember them off the top of my head.

2. The articles are branded consistently with my business name.

I even use bit.ly links for things like my social media profiles–it’s especially useful for LinkedIn.

Bit.ly links automatically include analytics including number of clicks and source of clicks.
